LEVANT – Ask Reggie Moors Sr. about Gold Wings and expect him to talk on and on about them. He is one of 300 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle owners throughout the state, and one of many who like to show off their Gold Wings at shows.
Moors has so much fun at the shows that he’s helping the organization grow in Maine. Two chapters of the Gold Wing Touring Association have been established in the state so far – Chapter A in Sebago and Chapter B in Bangor.
“I want to get people together to share ideas and friendships,” said Moors, whose motorcycle is a 1987 model.
“The thrill of owning a Gold Wing is in the people you meet.”
Gold Wing Touring Association members participate in the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Ride for Kids and the United Bikers of Maine annual Toy Run.
Other events include rides to campgrounds in summer and a “Wing-less Weekend” at a motel in winter.
Traveling is certainly in Moors’ blood. He is retired from 26 years with the Air Force, and he and wife Mary did a good bit of touring with a classic car they used to own.
That car was a restored 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass, Moors explained, a project that earned him 52 trophies over the years.
But meeting people is really the point, Moors said, and the Gold Wing members also try to promote the positive image of motorcycling.
Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Gott’s Family Restaurant at the North Brewer Shopping Center. Supper before the meeting is at 6:30 p.m.
