BC beats Maine twice

BOSTON – The University of Maine softball dropped a pair of games to Boston College, 3-2 and 10-1, on Saturday afternoon.

In the first game, Maine blew a 2-0 lead as Boston College rallied for three unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-2 win.

Kelly Dow stroked an RBI single in the third inning and then Jill Cassie scored on an error in the fourth inning to give the Black Bears a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles’ Liz Walker slugged a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning before Rachel Peterson drove in Laura Thompson with the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning.

Michelle Puls and Kelly Dow each had three hits for Maine, while Mary Persson scattered five hits.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles did most of the damage in the second and fourth innings, stacking up nine runs on the way to a 10-1 victory.

Deb Nasitka and Laura Thompson each hit a double and single and drove in four and three runs, respectively, to key the Eagles.

Kelly Harrington led the Black Bears with a double and single. Cassie added a triple.

Maine slipped to 10-12.

Husson drops four

At Bloomfield, N.J., Husson dropped a doubleheader to Bloomfield College 5-1 and 11-1 here Sunday and a doubleheader with St. Thomas Aquinas 15-2 and 11-3 at Sparkill, N.Y., on Saturday.

In the first game Sunday, Bloomfield scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the third to down the Braves of Bangor. Claudia Murphy had two singles while Kris Innocent singled and tripled. Innocent was also the winning pitcher, giving up only seven hits.

The Braves were led by Jen Russ’ two singles and Emily Burill’s single and triple.

The second game saw 5-2 Bloomfield score all 11 of their runs in the first three innings to post the win.

Pam Barlow scattered four Braves’ hits to pick up the win. Murphy had two singles and a two-run home run to pace Bloomfield. Tracey Thompson singled twice and Sabrina Vazquez doubled and singled.

Amy Copola had two doubles while Jess Moore and Michelle Cogan each singled for the 6-6 Braves.

In Saturday’s first game, St. Thomas Aquinas put nine runs across the plate in the bottom of the third inning to blow the game open.

Jaime Davidson led St. Thomas Aquinas with two singles, a double and three RBIs. Liz Pandolsi socked a three-run homer.

For Husson, Cogan singled and tripled and Burrill hit two singles.

In Saturday’s second game, 4-4 St. Thomas Aquinas completed the sweep by getting all 11 runs in the first and fifth innings.

Davidson, Janice Sawitsky, Michelle DeLuca and Laura Peterson each had two hits for the winners.

For Husson, Tracy Lamontagne tripled, singled and drove in a run. Burrill had a double, single and an RBI.
