Carney’s double knocks off Katahdin

SHERMAN STATION – Ashland’s Jennifer Carney doubled to knock in the winning run and cap a four-run rally in the top of the eighth inning as the Hornets stung Katahdin 8-4 in schoolgirl softball Thursday.

Amy Palmer paced Ashland’s 21-hit attack with two singles, a double and a triple. Alicia Nason added three singles while Carrey finished with two singles and a double.

For Katahdin, Megan Savage hit a one-run single.

Wisdom 14, Limestone 12

At Limestone, Kim Michaud plated the go-ahead run with a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 12-12 tie and put Wisdom of St. Agatha ahead for good.

Tracy Guerrette paced the Pioneers with two singles, a double and three RBIs. Michaud finished with two singles and a double.

For Limestone, Oleka Obar drove in five runs with a three-run homer and a single. Amy Berube and Kate Riley each had three hits.

Fort Kent 7, Madawaska 6

At Fort Kent, Robin Lamarr doubled driving home two runs in a three-run fifth inning as the Warriors picked up the win.

Amy Levesque doubled and singled while Lamarr added a single to her double.

Michele Hebert singled twice and hit a solo home run to lead Madawaska. Erin Pelletier doubled and singled for the Owls.

Washburn 10, Van Buren 9

At Washburn, Jana Woollard’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove home Wendy Carson with the game-winning run as Washburn collected its first win.

Courtney Flewelling paced the Beavers with two singles and a three-run homer. Shannon Henthorn had two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

For Van Buren, Kanaan St. Pierre hit four singles, Lynn Tardif hit three singles and Lori Morrow had two singles and three RBIs.

Houlton 26, Hodgdon 7

At Hodgdon, Jen Noonan and Erica Hiscoe drove in four runs each with four and three singles, respectively, to lead the Houlton Shiretowners to the win.

Erica Upton add a two-run homer and three singles and Darcy Howe socked a two-run homers.

For Hodgdon, Wendy Ivey stroked three-run homer and a two-run triple. Cara Bither had two singles.

Presque Isle sweeps Hampden

At Hampden, the Wildcats pounded out 12 hits in the first game for a 15-5 win and had 11 hits in the second to complete the sweep 16-3.

Nicole Gamblin paced the ‘Cats in the first game with two singles and a double. Billi Hayward and Tracy Richardson each added two singles.

Becky Fraser singled twice for Hampden and Kyla Stearns doubled.

Gamblin sparked PI again in the second game with two singles and Heather Norsworthy singled twice, also.

Sarah Trask doubled and singled for Hampden and Brie Drummond singled twice.

Bulldogs sweep Patriots

At Machias, the Machias Bulldogs took a doubleheader from the Bangor Christian Patriots by scores of 11-0 and 10-3.

In game one, Catherine Luce ripped two singles and drove in two RBIs, Jodi Wood doubled and Jill McCarthy got the win for the Bulldogs.

Beth Treadwell led the Patriots with two singles.

In the second game, Catherine Luce again singled twice, Carolyn Luce notched two doubles, Michelle Hussey singled twice and Sheri Pritchard tripled for Machias.

Jen Caron singled for the lone Patriots’ hit.

At Millinocket, Sarah Kittrick pitched a six-hitter, striking out six as Stearns rolled to victory.

Meredith Oliver had three singles while Jenn Wilson, Cara Moone and Jeanne Marquis had two singles apiece for the Minutemen.

Riley McIsaac had two singles for Mount Desert Island.

At Lincoln, the Lynx clawed their way to a 7-0 first-inning lead, and never looked back.

Stephanie York led Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln with three singles and an RBI, Kelly Tash added a double, single and two RBIs, and Angie Hainer doubled, singled and drove in a run. Shannon Clifford cracked a double, two singles and two RBIs, Sarah Hatch tripled, singled and drove in three runs. Branielle House helped her own cause with two singles and an RBI.

Stephanie Thurlow, Cherokee Jipson, Tanya Mushrow each had a one-run single for Lee Academy.

At Winslow, sophomore Maegan Gordon hurled a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one, as the undefeated Black Raiders whitewashed the Tigers.

Gordon, who improved to 7-0, allowed just two baserunners.

Missy Veilleux singled twice and knocked in a run for Winslow, while Kelly Russell and Kate Pooler each rapped an RBI single.

At Thorndike, Sarah Cole’s single in the fourth inning drove in two runs as the Mount View Mustangs rallied for the win.

Holy Lidstone and Kristi Fuller each singled for the winners.

Megan Baker doubled for Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Foxcroft 19, Piscataquis 18 (8 inn.)

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jayne Fagon stroked a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning as Foxcroft held off Piscataquis Community High School.

Amy Fagon had five singles and Kelly Dow launched a grand slam and had two singles.

Jen Moore lashed out four singles while Holly Weymouth and Tereas Pomerleau had two singles and a double each.
