Austin races to Speedway 95 feature

HERMON – Jon Austin led wire-to-wire Saturday, then came from behind to win Sunday, sweeping a pair of Late Model Sportsman features this weekend at Speedway 95.

On Sunday, Austin worked past John Phippen Jr. of Bar Harbor to win the 25-lapper. Phippen settled for second and Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs was third. In Saturday’s race, Austin led all the way, with Seekins taking second and Kim Gray of Bar Harbor third.

Wiscasset Raceway

At Wiscasset, Leon Burgess of Oakland outlasted a rain shower and his competitors Saturday while claiming a victory in the Limited Sportsman feature race.

Burgess earned the pole in qualifying, then held off the field in the 25-lap feature. Steve Reno of Bath placed second and Freddie DiPompo of Livermore Falls was third.

The rest of Saturday’s race card was washed out by rain.

Busch North Series

At Owego, N.Y., Bobby Dragon of Milton, Vt., took the lead on lap 91 and fought off a late challenge from Kelly Moore of Scarborough to win Saturday’s rain-shortened Busch 150 at Tioga Speedway.

Dragon, who earned $10,375, was in the lead when the race was called because of rain after the completion of lap 145. Dale Shaw of Center Conway, N.H., claimed third place. Andy Santerre of Cherryfield, who started third, finished 30th.

Unity Raceway

Saturday night’s racing was postponed by rain. The features will be raced as part of a double feature next Saturday.

Oxford Plains Speedway

Sunday’s racing at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford was postponed by rain and will be held Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m.
