Old Town knocks off Brewer 63-60

BREWER – The Old Town Indians recorded a schoolboy basketball upset with a 63-60 victory over the previously undefeated Brewer Witches Tuesday night.

Brewer had a one-point lead at the end of the third quarter, but Old Town edged out to a three-point margin to secure its third win.

Tyler Tracewski scored 17 points to lead the winners and Kevin Emerson added 15. Cory Miller chipped in with 14 and Matt Petrie netted 10.

J.T. Breindel led the Witches with 15 points while Andy Frost added 13 points and Chad Gomm put in 12.

Drew Somers scored off a Nate Franck assist and Nick Simon made 47 saves on 50 shots for the 1-4 Minutemen of Millinocket.

Houlton-Hodgdon 7, Orono 3

At Millar Arena in Houlton, Jared Sylvia notched three goals while Mitch Hall finished with two goals plus two assists to lead the Houlton-Hodgdon Black Hawks to the victory.

Ben Carton had a goal and two assists, Tyler Hutchinson scored one goal, and Ian Pasquarelli had four assists for the 7-2 Hawks. Nick Fitzpatrick had an assist and finished with 23 saves on 26 shots.

Dylan Huckenstein and Tom Smyth each had a goal and an assist for the 3-5 Red Riots. Evan James scored the other goal, and Anthony Hegstrom made 26 saves on 33 shots.

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, David Sawyer scored a goal and had two assists to help lead the 2-5 Crusaders past Foxcroft Academy.

Kim Meagher had a goal and an assist for the Broncos while Matt Holmes and Kyle Maynard scored a goal apiece. Dan Leighton made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Ethan Annis and Nick Freese each scored a goal for Foxcroft while Derek Smith, Dustin Colbry and Ryan McNulty tallied assists. Dan Perkins made 17 saves on 21 shots for the Ponies.

At Old Town, the Indians outscored the Witches 24-4 in the fourth quarter to overcome an eight-point, third-quarter deficit en route to their fourth victory.

Old Town put on a fullcourt press and also nailed 13 of 16 foul shots in the comeback with Hannah Marquis netting 5 of 6.

Renee Thibodeau paced Old Town with 16 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Kristi Mitchell scored a team-high 18 points and Katie Bergeron added 13.

Katie Harris led Brewer with 11 points and Ashley Adams put in 10.
