Chancellor to address Maine Potato Board

PRESQUE ISLE – Dr. Joseph W. Westphal, chancellor of the University of Maine System, will be the guest speaker at the Maine Potato Board’s annual meeting

The meeting and dinner will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. A social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The board also will honor Paul Lagerstrom of Presque Isle as the 2002 Young Farmer of the Year.

Lagerstrom and his wife, Sarah, grow 700 acres of potatoes for processing and farm another 700 acres of grain. Lagerstrom has been farming for more than 10 years.

In addition to farming, Lagerstrom has been president and vice president of Central Aroostook Young Farmers, a member of the Aroostook Water and Soil Management board, and is active in other organizations.

Also at the meeting, the president’s award will be presented to a person chosen by the board’s president for service, concern and dedication to the potato industry.
