Coastal challenge

Feeling chili? Warm up at the Village Soup Chili & Chowder Challenge, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Camden Snow Bowl in Camden. Twelve restaurants from Camden, Rockport and Rockland will serve up 11 chilis and six chowders. Diners will cast votes for the winner. Admission costs $6 for adults, $4 for children 12 and younger and includes all of the chilis and chowders, as well as ice cream and beverage. Proceeds from the event, which is part of the 13th annual toboggan nationals, will benefit the Camden Snow Bowl. For information, call 236-8468.

Sweet smarts

Conversation hearts are a sugary way to say “LUV U” or “BE MINE,” but Necco’s new Sweethearts have a few messages that are too cool for school. This Valentine’s Day, parents can slip their children a box of hearts with the phrases “BOOK CLUB,” “LET’S READ,” or “WHIZ KID.” Learning never tasted so good. What could be better than a box of Godiva chocolates this Valentine’s Day? How about a pair of his and hers BMW Z4 roadsters or a getaway for two to a luxury spa resort?
