P.I. police seek help on vehicle burglaries

PRESQUE ISLE – Local police are looking for assistance concerning a series of motor vehicle burglaries that occurred Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002.

Between midnight and 4 a.m., 13 vehicles from the former air-base housing were burglarized, according to the police. All of the cars were unlocked, and the criminals took portable CD players, CDs, wallets, cigarettes and other items.

The burglaries totaled more than $1,000, even though no one owner lost more than a few hundred dollars worth of property, the police said.

The thefts all occurred in the vicinity of Mic Mac Drive, Central Avenue and Sunset Loop. Some of the stolen items were retrieved from garbage bins in the area, according to the police.
