Old Town man arrested after fleeing from payment of $6.90 taxicab fare

An Old Town man landed in Penobscot County Jail on Saturday over $6.90.

Nathan Cotnoir, 22, was charged with theft of services after he ran off from a cab in Old Town without paying, police said.

Around 1:20 a.m., a cabdriver flagged down Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey to say that a male passenger wearing a white sweater and baseball hat had bolted after the cab reached its destination on Central Street, police reports said.

Hashey began following some tracks in the snow. A short time later, Officer Seth Burnes saw a man matching the description near Oak and Seventh streets. The man had a good deal of snow on the lower half of his body, the report said.

After ignoring initial police requests to stop, the man stopped walking and the cabdriver was brought to identify him. The man was arrested and taken to jail.

Bangor police arrested a Vassalboro man early Sunday after he became combative and refused to cooperate with police.

Alexander Santiago, 30, was charged with disorderly conduct and failing to give his name to law enforcement, and was taken to Penobscot County Jail.

Around 1 a.m., Bangor police received a report of a fight inside Pete and Larry’s Lounge on the Odlin Road.

Officers Kevin MacLaren and Dennis Townsend found a man on the floor restraining a larger man. The larger male had been asked to leave the bar and, after employees attempted to escort him out, he became combative and had to be restrained, according to police reports.

MacLaren advised the smaller man to let go and the larger man stood up. According to the report, the larger man refused three times to give his name, became belligerent and attempted to walk out before being stopped by Townsend.

MacLaren told the man he would need to cooperate or be arrested. The man then challenged the officers to arrest him.

The man was handcuffed, and MacLaren found the man’s wallet identifying him as Santiago. Townsend spoke with a bartender, who said Santiago had threatened to assault her after she refused to serve him alcohol.

Santiago allegedly was approaching the bar when employees began trying to escort him out, the report said. Santiago’s court date is March 10.

Bangor police arrested a local woman early Saturday after they reported that she was driving erratically through downtown.

Melissa Gustin, 20, was charged with operating under the influence and operating after suspension.

Bangor police Officer Edward Mercier was assisting an officer who had stopped a car on Central Street just after 2 a.m. when he saw a station wagon make a wide turn onto the street.

The station wagon missed the stopped car by just a few feet and missed a curb by a few inches. Mercier followed the car up Hammond Street as it stayed close to the curb. He stopped the car as it drove over an island during a left-hand turn onto Clinton Street, the report said.

At the window of the car, Gustin identified herself and said she didn’t have a license. According to the report, Gustin had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, although she denied drinking anything.

Mercier asked her to step out and she walked unsteadily to the back of the car, the report said. Gustin had trouble completing field sobriety tests and was arrested.

Her blood alcohol content registered 0.16 percent on the Intoxilyzer test, or twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. She was taken to Penobscot County Jail without incident.
