ORRINGTON – The Curran Homestead’s Turn-of-the Century Winter Carnival, the Fields Pond Family Ice Fishing Derby and the third annual Currier & Ives Sleigh Rally offer a way to enjoy winter 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16.
The winter carnival features cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking, snow sculpture contests, a “Capture the Past” photo contest for all ages, sleigh rides, sliding, skating and games.
The sleigh rally is set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sleigh enthusiasts will compete in judged events, including authenticity of sleighs and accessories, horsemanship, horse performance at a road trot and other gaits, and obstacle course maneuvering. Ribbon prizes will be awarded. Also scheduled is the Currier & Ives Sleigh Parade. To learn more about this event, call Paula Leavitt at 234-4537.
The ice fishing derby is from noon to 3 p.m. and is presented in cooperation with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Registration is on-site and no fishing license is required. Volunteers, business sponsors and DIF&W personnel will be on hand to provide traps, ice chisels, bait, skimmers, coffee and hot chocolate, and an educational program.
