Hamlin helps Penquis edge Searsport Stearns defeats WA Raiders

MILO – Jean Hamlin made three of four free throws in the last 13 seconds to secure a 49-46 Class C girls basketball prelim win for the No. 8 Penquis Patriots over the No. 9 Searsport Vikings Tuesday night.

Kate Hamlin scored 18 points for the Patriots as Shannon Gerrish and Becca Madden each netted 10 points.

Brittany Smith scored 22 points for the Vikings and Pauline Vasiliauskas had 11.

John Tuell and Tom Smyth each scored a goal for the Red Riots. Dylan Huckestein, Keith Hedrick, and Chad Sanborn all had one assist. Anthony Hegstrom made 29 saves for 6-12 Orono.

Stearns 3, Houlton/Hodg. 2 (OT)

At Houlton, Tyler Pelkey netted the game-winning goal off of a Shawn McBey assist at 3:03 into overtime to win it for Stearns of Millinocket.

Drew Summers and Ryan Bouchard each scored a goal for Stearns as Pelkey and Nick Simon each had an assist. Simon made 38 saves for 6-10 Stearns.

Ben Carton scored both of Houlton/Hodgdon’s goals as Mitch Hall, Tyler Hutchinson, and Ben Hendrickson all had an assist. Nic Joslyn stopped 32 shots for 13-6 Houlton/Hodgdon.

Hampden 6, John Bapst 1

At Sawyer Arena, Bangor, Adam Standley scored three goals to help power 14-3 Hampden past John Bapst.

Kevin Brooks added two goals and an assist for the Broncos while Dan Mangano scored a goal. Greg Taylor and Jason Huntley had two assists apiece while Chris Pease, Lance Ingerson and Steve Boutin each recorded assists. Garrett Macgowan made 10 saves.

David Grenier scored the lone goal with an assist from Zac Grenier while Dan Leighton stopped 43 shots for the 5-13 Crusaders of Bangor.

Old Town 5, Kents Hill 2

At the T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Chris St. Louis scored a pair of goals, Jake Roeder had a goal and two assists and J.P. Stowe made 38 saves as Old Town improved to 4-14.

Joey Guerette and Eric LeClair had the other Indian goals with James Dubay, Brad Goody and Andy Pease collecting assists.

Winston Elliott and Will Bridgeo scored for 5-9 Kents Hill and Ben Krall had an assist. Mike Whynott made 22 saves.

At Skowhegan, the Dragons went 14-for-18 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to rally for the win.

Drew Pelletier led the 16-0 defending Class A state champs with 26 points. Ralph Mims chipped in with 13 points and Taylor Caron had 12.

Derek Holt paced the Indians with 17 points. R.J. Anzlec contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds. Zach Davis scored 11 and Dom Susi had 10.
