Police arrested a Bangor man after a prolonged struggle to remove him from his girlfriend’s apartment during which he allegedly tried to take an officer’s gun.
Brian Boushee, 21, was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Saturday after a woman called police to a First Street address. She told Officers Dennis Townsend, Erik Tall and Michael Brennan that Boushee, her boyfriend, was drunk and that he was throwing items around the apartment, Townsend said.
The woman said that Boushee had become angry when she refused to sleep with him, Townsend said. Boushee had picked up a wooden chair and thrown it onto the floor. When she went into the kitchen, he followed her and began slamming the cabinets, the woman said.
Boushee admitted to having drunk a 12-pack that night, Tall said. Townsend arranged to have Boushee spend the night at Hope House, a Bangor substance abuse shelter. As they were leaving, Boushee began yelling at his girlfriend, allegedly swearing and threatening her, Townsend said.
Tall and Brennan took Boushee by the arm and escorted him out.
At the bottom of the stairs, Tall released Boushee and told him to walk out the door. Boushee turned around and said, “You guys think you’re so tough,” and allegedly threatened to beat the officers up. Tall said that Boushee threw a punch at one of the officers.
Tall told Boushee that he was under arrest and grabbed his arm. After a struggle, the three gained control of Boushee’s arms and put handcuffs on him, Townsend said. During the struggle, Boushee told the officers he was going to kill them. Tall said Boushee also tried to take Tall’s gun from his belt.
Brennan and Tall took Boushee to Penobscot County Jail, where he was charged with domestic assault, assault on an officer, disorderly conduct, and refusal to submit to arrest.
A Bangor man was charged with domestic assault after an incident Saturday.
Officers Michael Brennan and Erik Tall received the call at 8:55 p.m. They went to an Essex Street address, where the woman who called them alleged that Darrell Hamilton, 51, had assaulted her after a two-hour argument. As they spoke with the woman, Hamilton came out of the apartment. Brennan went inside to speak with him, while Tall stayed with the woman.
Brennan saw Hamilton stagger from the door to a seat in the kitchen, and the officer asked Hamilton whether he had been drinking. Hamilton said, “No.” He said that he and his girlfriend had argued over finances, and he denied touching her. The girlfriend said that they had argued over Hamilton’s drinking, and that Hamilton had slapped her on the sides of her head.
Hamilton had been on parole, Brennan said, and while they waited for his parole officer to call, Hamilton allegedly said, “Why don’t we just call this a domestic?” Brennan put him under arrest and had his girlfriend fill out a domestic violence worksheet.
