DEDHAM – A woman walked away from an accident Sunday morning after her pickup truck became airborne and landed on top of a line of vehicles parked in a used car lot.
Tracy Derrico, 35, of Veazie was headed south on Route 1A about 6:30 a.m. when she lost control of her truck on the slippery road, according to Deputy Jason Clarke of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
The 2001 Ford began fishtailing, and when Derrico tried to control it, it began to spin. Her vehicle crossed the northbound lane and hit a snowbank on the other side.
“The snowbank was about 5 feet high,” Clarke said. “She hit it at an angle, and it acted like a ramp.”
The pickup truck became airborne, then struck a line of used vehicles parked at a used car lot. It peeled the roofs off the first two vehicles in the line, spun around and came to rest on top of the other vehicles in the row, Clarke said.
“She took out six vehicles in all,” he said. “Her truck just ripped the cabs right off those first two vehicles.
“How she wasn’t hurt, I don’t know.”
Derrico received a small cut in the accident, but did not require medical attention. She was wearing a seat belt at the time, and the air bags in her pickup did deploy. No one else was injured in the crash.
Derrico’s truck was demolished in the accident, Clarke said. He estimated the damage to the parked vehicles at between $3,000 and $5,000.
