University of Maine senior Viktoriya Rybalko was named most outstanding female field performer for the second straight year at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.
The Maine men’s team finished fifth overall and the women were sixth at the two-day event, won by the University of Albany men and Northeastern University women.
Albany scored 148.25 points to win its first men’s AE indoor title. Boston University was second with 124, Northeastern third at 119.5, New Hampshire fourth with 94, Maine with 55, Binghamton at 38 and Hartford with 0.
In the women’s meet, Northeastern won its first conference crown since 1988 with 163 points, followed by BU (114), Albany (76), Stony Brook (64) New Hampshire (63.5), Maine (60), Binghamton (19.5) and Hartford (0).
Rybalko won the women’s triple jump with a distance of 12.36 meters (40 feet, 63/4 inches) and won a fourth consecutive long jump title with a mark of 19-113/4. She also finished second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.33 seconds.
Other women’s standouts include junior Claire Poliquin, who jumped 5-6 in the high jump to finish third; Winslow’s Katie Souviney, who finished third in the indoor pentathlon with 3,099 points. Stephanie McCusker of Lisbon was fourth in the triple jump (37-61/2) and seventh in the long jump (17-2). Junior Kate Page of Palmyra was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 44-1/2 and Julie Williams was fourth in the weight throw (51-10).
Maine’s 4-by-800 meter relay team finished first with a time of 7:44.01 in the men’s meet.
Senior Ken Bettis of Brunswick was the top men’s point producer as he finished second in the 800 (1:53.54). Senior Ryan Harkleroad was fourth in the 800 and junior Scott Minkowsky of Topsham was fifth. Nolan Tobey of South China finished third in the 3,000-meter run and Jeff Caron of Auburn was fourth. Nate Holmes of Waterboro was third in was third in the 55 hurdles and Andre Dubois was fourth in the shot put.
Scott Godsoe of Old Town was fifth in the long jump and Kenneth Savary was sixth. Ed Caron was fourth in the mile and Joel Evans was fifth in the 500 meters. Paul Rupprecht was sixth in the 1,000.
