Company expansion

WBRC Architects-Engineers, Inc. has announced the expansion of services for the Florida office to include engineering capabilities. The Florida office initially began in 2002 as WBRC Architects Inc. with architectural capabilities. It has now expanded to included registered engineer Al Bromley, chief -financial officer and principal of the firm for 23 years, offering the firm added engineering capabilities.

Douglas Whitney, principal architect of the Florida office, oversees the management of this new enterprise. Whitney has increased exposure of the Maine-based firm to allow for new opportunities in architecture for the firm’s designers.

The Bangor firm has its Florida location in Sarasota.

New flight schedule

Bangor International Airport has announced new nonstop jet service starting June 6 between Bangor and Detroit International Airport, provided by Northwest Airlines, based in Minneapolis. The flights, aboard Canadair regional jets, will carry 50 passengers. A third flight will be added Saturdays to handle additional summer weekend demand.

The airport also has announced daily nonstop service to Manchester, N.H., beginning March 22. The flights will be aboard 19-passenger Jetstream J-31 airliners.

EPA Award

The Bangor Wastewater Treatment Facility was one of four Maine agencies to receive a New England Regional Operations and Maintenance Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The Bangor facility earned second place for an industrial pretreatment award.

Bank promotions

Edwin N. Clift, president and chief executive officer of Merrill Bank, has announced several recent promotions at the bank.

Lynne A. Spooner, senior vice president, has assumed overall responsibility for the retail banking functions, including branch administration, consumer lending and mortgage banking. She has been a member of senior management, overseeing residential mortgage lending, since its formation. Spooner currently is past president of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, treasurer of The Housing Foundation of Orono, and a board member of Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Auxiliary.

Angela T. Butler was promoted to vice president in the commercial lending area. She joined the bank as a credit analyst in 1994 and has assumed increasing responsibilities in the commercial lending area. Butler serves as a director of the United Way of Eastern Maine and of the Abnaki Girl Scout Council.

Fred A. Brown was promoted to assistant vice president in the commercial lending area. He joined the bank as a credit analyst in 1999 after three years at MBNA in Belfast. Brown’s community involvement includes serving as a director of Penquis Community Action Program. He is a Cherryfield native and graduate of Husson College.

Theresa M. Brooks was promoted to loan officer in the retail banking area at the Main Street office in Bangor. She recently completed the management training program after working at the bank for the past seven years. She is pursuing a degree in business management at Husson College.

Linda G. England was promoted to accounting officer at the operations center in Bangor. She has been with the bank for seven years, where she now oversees daily operations in accounting. England has an associate degree from the University of Maine and is pursuing a degree in accounting from Husson College.

Cynthia L. Leighton was promoted to training officer in human resources. She has been with the bank for eight years. She received an associate degree from Husson College in paralegal studies. She is a former director of the Bangor-Brewer YWCA and coordinates many of the bank’s volunteer activities, including Read for Success.

Holly A. Vetelino was promoted to trust officer in the trust and investment services area of the bank. She has been with the bank for five years, with increasing responsibilities for retirement benefits and trust administration. Vetelino is a graduate of Eastern Maine Technical College and the University of Maine.

Lawrence M. Napoleone has joined the bank as a vice president and investment manager in the trust and investment services department. A certified financial planner and graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Napoleone has many years of financial planning and investment advisory experience. He is trustee and chairman of the investment committee for the Good Samaritan Agency, and has been chairman of the distribution committee for the United Way of Eastern Maine.

Shawn P. Mallison has joined the bank as an assistant vice president in the retail banking area. A Binghamton, N.Y., native, Mallison graduated from Cedarville University in Ohio and most recently worked in North Carolina. He has 11 years of financial and banking experience.

New Web site

Bangor Savings Bank has launched a new Web site, www.bangor.com, which has improved navigation and functionality. The bank’s previous Web site domain name was www.bangorsavings.com. It was honored for design, content and leading edge functionality for consumer and commercial banking services.

Assistant vice president

Paul E. Tormey has been named an assistant vice president in the cash management department at Peoples Heritage Bank in Bangor. He will continue to assist corporate clients in treasury management and commercial banking at 77 Exchange St.

Tormey joined Peoples in 1996. He previously served as a cash management officer, mortgage originator and branch manager at Peoples.

A resident of Orrington, Tormey volunteers as a reader for Maine A.I.R.S., a broadcast news service for the visually impaired. He also serves in the U.S. Army Reserve in Bangor. Tormey is a 1989 graduate of the University of Hartford in Hartford, Conn.

Brewer

Towing service

Kevin Crowe has formed a new company, Crowe Towing. Located on Wilson Street, Crowe Towing offers carrier service to the Bangor-Brewer area and as statewide long distance transport. The company, Crowe said, specializes in lockouts, cold starts and tire changes. To learn more, call 944-0889.
