Bangor Lumberjacks sign League MVP de la Cruz

BANGOR – The Bangor Lumberjacks picked up four players to their roster, including the 2002 Northern League East Most Valuable Player, in moves earlier this week.

The Lumberjacks signed free agent Lorenzo de la Cruz, who as a member of the Adirondack Lumberjacks last year led the league with a .367 batting average, 75 RBIs, and 109 hits.

The 31-year-old has a .293 career average and is expected to be a designated hitter for Bangor.

The Lumberjacks picked up pitchers Kevin Orga and Roger Kalinowski and outfielder Eddie Rivero in a trade with the Joliet Jackhammers.

Orga went 4-1 with a 3.55 ERA for Joliet last season. Kalinowski, a lefty, had an 0-1 record and a 3.99 ERA in 29 1/3 innings. Rivero hit .248 with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs for the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Canaries of the Northern League last year.

Bangor sent pitcher Derek Santiago to Joliet in the trade.
