Joy ride ends in accident, charges Old Town brothers accused of taking car, fleeing scene, other offenses

Two Old Town teenage brothers fled on foot after a brief and bumpy joy ride this weekend.

The boys, 15 and 17, took another teen’s car without permission about 9:15 p.m. Friday. They drove down Meadow Lane onto Perkins Avenue, where they ran a stop sign and sideswiped a pickup truck, Old Town police Officer Bob Pelletier said.

The younger brother was driving, Pelletier said. After striking the pickup, he turned the car around and drove it back to Meadow Lane, where a neighbor heard it skid to a stop.

The boys jumped out of the car, the neighbor told police, and ran up Perkins Avenue toward Jefferson Street.

Officer Chris Hashey stopped the boys near the corner of Lincoln and King streets and questioned them. Pelletier said the 15-year-old driver confessed to taking the car.

After an Intoxilyzer test at the police station, police summoned the driver for operating without a license, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign, driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The boys were released into their parents’ custody, Pelletier said.

Pelletier said Officer Seth Burnes took charge of the accident scene. Nobody was injured

Bangor police arrested a Glenburn man Sunday afternoon on a warrant for sex and drug charges.

Just after noon, Officer Paul Colley stopped a Hyundai on Hammond Street near Market Square. The car fit the description of a car that had been reported as being driven by a person with a suspended driver’s license.

While the driver, Brian Tomilson, 27, of Glenburn, turned out to have an active license, a warrant check showed Tomilson had an outstanding arrest warrant from Superior Court in Bangor, Colley said.

He said the charges were unlawful sexual contact and two counts of unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs.

Colley arrested Tomilson and took him to Penobscot County Jail.

A car fire led to an arrest in Brewer on Saturday evening.

The Brewer fire and police departments responded just before 7 p.m. to a report of a car on fire on North Main Street. The fire damaged the front end of the car, a witness said.

Cpl. Jason Moffitt spoke to the driver of the car, who said she was on the way to a meeting and that the car had had exhaust work done earlier that day. Moffitt then let her go to her meeting.

A license check of the woman’s name gave no results, Moffitt said. He then went to the meeting she had mentioned and spoke to her outside.

The woman admitted she had given a fake name. Her real name is Joanne Brown, 60, of Brewer, Moffitt said.

Moffitt learned that Brown’s license was suspended and that she was a habitual offender. She also had an arrest warrant from Superior Court in Bangor for failing to appear to answer a charge of operating while under the influence.

Moffitt arrested Brown and took her to Penobscot County Jail. She was charged with operating after suspension as a habitual offender.
