Blaze destroys home of assistant fire chief

SANGERVILLE – A fire Tuesday destroyed the Center Pond home of a local couple.

Jeff Willey, Sangerville assistant fire chief, and his wife, Kathy, were at work when the fire was reported by a neighbor about 11:10 a.m. The house was in flames when firefighters arrived.

Sangerville Fire Chief Alan Nickerson said he believed the fire was electrical in nature. A cat and dog perished in the blaze, he said.

Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft and Guilford firefighters assisted Sangerville firefighters at the scene. The American Red Cross was called to assist the couple, who are staying with relatives. Nickerson said the building was insured.
