The public has one more opportunity to see some award-winning Brewer High School drama students in action.

Brewer Middle School coordinator Rich Kimball wrote me that the one-act play, “The Chronicles of Jane, Book Seven,” will be performed, for your pleasure, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Brewer Middle School.

This is the play the students performed in the Maine Drama Festival.

Kimball said the play tells the story of a 16-year-old girl “who rules the universe, or at least thinks she does.”

In the lead is sophomore Abbie Armstrong, who was named Best Actress in the regional drama festival, Kimball wrote.

Junior Paul Morrow, who plays Norman, was selected as Best Actor.

Kimball added that “the entire cast received a special commendation from the judges for inventive use of physical theater imagery.”

Tickets for the performance are $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Community Health and Counseling Services is hosting the Books Are Fun Fair, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, March 21, in Conference Room No. 4 of the agency’s main office at 42 Cedar St. in Bangor.

Thousands of books in more than 12 categories, at prices up to 70 percent off retail, will be available.

At the fair, you will find books about personal wellness, an excellent selection of children’s books, reference material, educational books, cookbooks, religious and inspirational books, as well as books about sports and photography.

In addition, you will find stationery, toys, videos and much more to make this an outstandingly economical shopping opportunity for a most worthy cause. Proceeds will benefit programs in the CHCS service area that includes most of Eastern Maine.

PACE Local 9 is hosting a dinner to benefit their union brothers and sisters in the Katahdin region who have been affected by the bankruptcy of Great Northern Paper Inc.

The dinner is 4-7 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at the PACE Local 9 Union Hall on Route 201, halfway between Fairfield and Skowhegan.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-13, and free for children under 5.

Expected to make an appearance at the benefit are Rep. Michael Michaud and local politicians.

Because I know that members of Bangor High School Class of 1958 are doing all they can to locate everyone who was ever part of their class, I am listing all 22 of those they have not been able to find.

The fact that many in that class could have been members of Air Force families connected to the former Dow Air Force Base could be one of the reasons it may be difficult to locate them.

BHS ’58 is hosting its 45th Reunion on July 10-13 in Greater Bangor.

Additionally, plans are in the works for a BHS ’58 Caribbean cruise in 2005 which might interest some who are unable to attend this year’s reunion.

The missing members of BHS ’58 are Jane Carter, Wayne Curtis, Joy Fisher, Carol Goodwin Steeves, Mary Ann Laurynite, Dolar Pearson, Sandra Sargent Davis, Carolyn Walls, Patricia Collins, Sharon Drake, Lee Fowler, Harold Grant, Patricia Lothrop O’Neil, Deanna Peavey Williams and Roger Stearns.

BHS ’58 is also seeking Faye Currier Moro, Patricia Farrell Washburn, Lucille Gilbert O’Brien, Marlene Kaufman, Rita McPherson, Elizabeth Rideout Armstrong and Evelyn Sumner.
