Colby, Hamilton in split

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Colby College split a pair of baseball games with Hamilton College on Tuesday, winning the first game 13-10 and losing the second 5-2.

In the first game, Nick Miller had three singles while Matt Gibson added two RBIs and earned the save for Colby.

In the second game, Hamilton scored all five of its runs on six hits in the first inning.

Jared Cushman had two singles and an RBI while Gibson had a triple and Jon Vacca added a double for the White Mules.

USM splits with St. Thomas

At Fort Myers, Fla., Paul Tedesco’s two-run double highlighted a seven-run sixth inning that gave the University of Southern Maine an 8-3 win over St. Thomas in the first game of a doubleheader.

St. Thomas won the second game 6-1.

Brian Marshall, Adam Lemieux, Andy Lang and Tyler Delorme each chipped in with an RBI single in USM’s big inning.

Ryan Adams pitched a scoreless final 1 2/3 innings to pick up the win in relief for the Huskies.

In the second game, freshman righthander Ryan Ashner allowed only five hits while walking one and striking out three to shut down USM.

Pat McDonough had an RBI single for the Huskies.

Colby falls in two Florida games

At Fort Myers, Fla., Colby left 21 runners on base in two losses, the first 2-1 to Union and the second 4-0 to Bethel.

In the first game, Michaelyn Bortolotti had two hits and Wendy Bonner had an RBI double for Colby.

In the second game, Bortolotti, Meaghan Shea and Kate Hurd had two hits apiece for the White Mules.

USM sweeps pair of games

At Fort Myers, Fla., the University of Southern Maine swept a pair of Florida games, defeating Bethel 3-2 and Hartwick 8-1.

In the first game, USM used a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win. Sarah McLean hit an RBI double to score the winning run.

Karrie Bateman had a solo home run for Bethel.

In the second game, Natasha Jackson smacked a three-run double and Caterina Riitano followed with a two-run homer to give the Huskies a six-run first inning and the win.

Katie Mainville pitched a four-hitter.
