HOULTON – The Central Aroostook Kennel Club will host a Breed and Obedience Fun Match on Sunday, April 27, at the RollerRama Roller Rink.
A fun match is not an AKC-sanctioned match, but rather is an opportunity for dogs and handlers to earn ribbons, trophies, and gain experience for future competitions. Handlers and dogs are invited to participate in breed and-or obedience competition, with participation by young people also encouraged in a junior handling class.
Competition by breed will be divided into the following classes: junior puppy, age 3 to 6 months; senior puppy, age 6 to 12 months; novice; open; and a puppy sweepstakes.
Obedience competition will include: subnovice (mixed breed dogs admitted), novice, open, and utility levels of classes.
A special “hands-on” show handling workshop also is being offered 10-11:30 a.m. as part of the day’s events. Instructor for the workshop is Susan Chase of Fredericton, New Brunswick, who has professionally bred and shown many breeds of dogs. The workshop fee is $5 per dog.
Registration for fun match entries will be taken from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $5 per entry per class, payable at the match. Junior handlers compete for free, with an entry in another class. For more information or an entry form, contact Melton Berube at 764-1259 or visit the CAKC Web site at www.cakclub.org.
