PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Brittany Cheney smacked a two-run triple as the Maine softball team earned a 5-1 victory over Brown Sunday in the second game of a doubleheader. Brown won the first game 1-0.
In the first game, Melissa Brown hit a one-out double for Brown. After a passed ball advanced her to third, Jaimie Wirkowski’s sacrifice fly brought in the game-winner.
Uchenna Omokaro tossed a three-hit shutout for the winners.
Jenna Merchant surrendered seven hits and one run for Maine.
In the second game, Molly McKinney chipped in with an RBI single for Maine and Sarah Bennis scattered three hits.
Wirkowski scored on an error for Brown’s lone run.

Savannah sweeps St. Joseph’s
At Standish Sunday, Savannah pitching limited the Monks to four hits in a doubleheader, winning the first game 4-1 in the first game and posting a 2-1 victory in the second.
In the first game, Harold Jones baffled the Monks, allowing just one run on two hits for Savannah.
Derek McIntosh hit a sacrifice fly for St. Joseph’s.
In the second game, Brad Kempson surrendered just a run on two hits to lead Savannah to the sweep.
Nick Arno had two singles and an RBI for the Monks.

At Buzzards Bay, Mass., Barry Joyce knocked in five goals to propel Massachusetts Maritime to the win Saturday.
Bill Glavin had three goals for the winners. Joe Bushy and Craig Doherty netted two each. Dan Nelson had 17 saves.
Dustin Webber, Matt Burns and Peter Van Hoek had a goal apiece for the Mariners. Grant Robinson had 16 saves.
