State vocal jazz, choir festival winners announced

HOULTON – The Maine State Vocal Jazz and Show Choir Festival took place Saturday at Houlton High School.

There were 12 junior high school show choirs, 10 high school jazz choirs and nine high school show choirs that competed in various divisions.

The final results are as follows:

Division II High School Jazz Choirs

Outstanding Musicianship Awards: female vocal, Lindsay DiPasquale, Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield; male vocal, Ian Berglund, Fryeburg Academy; rhythm section, Presque Isle High School.

First place, Fryeburg Academy; second place, Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield; third place, Presque Isle High School.

Division I High School Jazz Choirs

Outstanding Musicianship Awards: female vocal, Angela Warren, Bangor High School; male vocal, John Coons, Nokomis Regional High School, Newport; rhythm section, Bangor High School.

First place, Bangor High School; second place, Nokomis Regional High School, Newport; third place, Mt. Blue High School, Farmington.

Division II Middle School Show Choirs

Outstanding Musicianship Awards: female vocal, Shaeleigh Kavin, Union 122; male vocal, Nick Cyr, Millinocket Middle School; rhythm section, Union 122; outstanding choreography, Union 122.

First Place, Union 122, New Sweden, Stockholm, Woodland; second place, Somerset Valley Middle School, Newport; third place, Millinocket Middle School.

Division I Middle School Show Choirs

Outstanding Musicianship Awards: female vocal, Rylee Doiron, Mt. Blue Middle School, Farmington; male vocal, Kyle Denis, Warsaw Middle School, Pittsfield; outstanding choreography, Warsaw Middle School, Pittsfield.

First place, Warsaw Middle School, Pittsfield; second place, Houlton Junior High School; third place, Ellsworth Middle School.

Division II High School Show Choirs

Outstanding Musicianship Awards: female vocal, Amber Blakney, Washburn High School; male vocal, Dustin Graham, Houlton High School; rhythm section, Stearns High School, Millinocket; outstanding choreography, Stearns High School, Millinocket.

First place, Houlton High School; second place, Stearns High School, Millinocket; third place, Fort Fairfield High School.

Division I High School Show Choirs

Outstanding Musicianship Awards: female vocal, Meghan Frederick, Mount Desert Island High School; male vocal, John Coons, Nokomis Regional High School, Newport; rhythm section, Nokomis Regional High School, Newport; outstanding choreography, Hampden Academy.

First place, Hampden Academy; second place, Nokomis Regional High School, Newport; third place, Mount Desert Island High School.
