Candlepin bowling state championships set

The State Candlepin Bowling Championships get under way today at Vacationland Lanes in Saco.

First-round women’s action begins at 11 a.m. with No. 16 seeded Amanda Hill taking on No. 9 Nancy Vigue, No. 17 Danell Kane versus No. 8 Tracy Toman, No. 13 Kim Trask pitted against No. 12 Rose Stimpson, No. 20 Crystal Campbell meets No. 5 Rici Justice, No. 15 Val Joy takes on No. 10 Heidi Hewes, No. 18 April Libby meets No. 7 Sharon Nealey, No. 14 Amanda Kaler goes up against No. 11 Leann Lowe, and No. 19 Nancy Provencal rolls off against No. 6 Carole Swenson.

The second round follows at 1 p.m. with the quarterfinals on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Top-seeded Judy Bowden, No. 2 Karen Matero, No. 3 Casey Murray, and No. 4 Kelly Ames received byes into the quarterfinal rounds.

The men get under way at noon with No. 16 Dave Gilbert pitted against No. 9 Dan Lempke, No. 17 Jerry Scott meets No. 8 Mike Leland, No. 13 Matt Rich competes against No. 12 Jeff McLain, No. 20 Owen Martin takes on No. 5 Al Joy, No. 15 Dave Vigue vs. No. 10 Shane Tripp, No. 18 Jim Pennell goes up against No. 7 Chip Carson, No. 14 Kevin McNally meets No. 11 Scott Sirois, and No. 19 Walt Bowden takes on No. 6 Shawn Morrison.

The second round follows at 2 p.m. with the quarterfinals taking place Sunday at 1 p.m.

Top-seeded Nate Nealey, No. 2 Tim Matero, No. 3 Jim Singleton, and No. 4 Kevin Sparks received byes to the quarterfinal round.

The semifinal rounds will be held April 19 at 1 p.m. with the championship round April 26 at 1 p.m.
