Husson earns split with no-hit effort

BANGOR – Barrett Dionne and Chris McInnis combined on a no-hitter in the first game Friday as Husson College earned a split of its Sunrise Conference baseball doubleheader against Fisher College of Boston.

The Braves won the opener 9-0, but Fisher took the nightcap 6-4.

In the first game, Dionne struck out seven and walked four in seven innings before McInnis struck out three in working the eighth.

Jason Harvey and Craig Harvey each rapped three singles and had an RBI for the Braves. Steve Estes and Aaron Brideau each singled twice.

In the second game, Fisher’s Dave Zacono went the distance, giving up four runs on 10 hits.

Victor Joaquin ripped a two-run double in the top of the eighth to give Fisher the winning margin.

Jason Folsom (2 RBIs) and Jason Harvey each stroked three singles for the Braves.

Beavers sweep Owls

At Thomas College in Waterville, UMaine-Farmington swept UMaine-Presque Isle, 11-1 in the first game and 10-7 in the second.

In the first game, Dan Cummings’ three-run homer led an 11-hit UMF attack.

Senior Dave Sharland had two singles and an RBI while junior Zachary Reed drove in two runs and scored twice and senior James Writer had two singles and an RBI.

Dan Fay fired a four-hitter, striking out six and walking one.

Royce Blackwood singled twice and John O’Dell hit an RBI single for the Owls.

In the second game, Reed singled twice and drove in three runs to pace UMF. Writer hit an RBI double and Sharland singled in two runs.

Ben Goodwin singled twice with two RBIs and Blake Alley hit two singles for the Owls. O’Dell provided a single and two RBIs.

At Gorham, the Huskies pounded out 18 hits and came away with the easy win over the Terriers.

Andy Lang had a triple, two doubles and a single and drove in three runs to lead Southern Maine. Tyler Delorme had a double, two singles and three runs batted in, while Brian Marshall singled three times with an RBI.

Erik Kent scattered four hits over eight innings to earn the win.

Scott Brawn had a run-scoring double for the Terriers.

Southern Maine sweeps Bowdoin

At Gorham, Kari Vance fired a three-hit shutout in the opener while Melissa Henderson allowed just four hits in the rain-shortened second game as the Huskies came away with 1-0 and 4-3 wins over Bowdoin.

In the first game, Vance struck out three and, at one point, retired 16 consecutive batters.

Southern Maine scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning when Ashley Woodcock singled, stole second and came around to score on Renee Heath’s double.

Bowdoin pitcher junior Erin Hanley scattered four hits and struck out three.

In the second game, Caterina Riitano drove in the eventual game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Bowdoin’s Lalura Perovich had an RBI double and Meagan Rodgers drove in a run with a single in the top of the sixth.

Braves sweep Fisher

At Castine, the Husson scored 29 runs in two games to sweep Fisher College, 18-1 and 11-3.

In the first game, Erin Weston and Stacy Ackerman each had two doubles to power the Braves.

Nicole Duplisea had two singles and tossed a one-run, one hitter for the winners. Duplisea and Wendy Butler also had two singles.

In the second game, Sara Agouab smacked a three-run homer to spark Husson.

Heather Bailey tossed a one-hitter for the Braves. Kelly McHatten doubled and tripled and Akerman rapped a double.
