Frank Chaisson, in his April 10 letter to the editor, urges support for a resolution against flag desecration. Following the Sept. 11 tragedy, some surviving family members of the victims were given a flag with the signatures of many fellow citizens. If we enact legislation to protect the flag, who will decide what is desecration and what is an appropriate act of patriotic solidarity?
I would be reluctant to sign any flag for of fear violating the law. This law, while well-intentioned, could be a serious infringement on the right of free speech.
