Crandall powers Belfast past MCI

BELFAST – Morgan Crandall pitched a shutout, striking out six and allowing four hits and a walk to lead the Belfast Lions to a 12-0 schoolgirl softball win over the Maine Central Institute Huskies Monday.

Crandall also led the offense with a grand slam, a home run and a single for six RBIs.

Kate Ross added two doubles and a single for three RBIs while Sam Ellis hit a triple and two singles. Lauren Overlack and Ashley Bryant had an RBI triple apiece while Angela Marden chipped in with two singles.

Kirsten Stevens, Megan Ferland, Missy Hussey and Kasey Dodge each hit a single for MCI.

At Jonesport, Jodi Pinkham sent home eight runners on two singles and a triple to help power Jonesport-Beals.

Naomi Chandler contributed with two singles, a double and a triple for five RBIs.

Kelsy Snowman hit a single and a triple for Woodland while Alicia Vose had a double.

At East Sullivan, Hollan Oliver hit three singles for two RBI to help lead Deer Isle-Stonington to the win.

Heather Bray had three singles and an RBI while Kourtnay Larsen added two singles and an RBI. Christina Fifield contributed two singles.

Monica Stanley hit a triple and a single for one RBI while Lauren Robinson and Meghan Ruhlin had two singles apiece for Sumner.

At Lee, Marci Moors scattered eight hits while twin sister Jackie Moors had a double, two singles, and an RBI.

Darcey Gillespie had a two-run homer in the first, two singles, and four RBIs for Calais. Amanda Brown doubled and singled.

At East Machias, Washington Academy rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge the Knights of Harrington.

Daphne Nichols cranked a solo home run for the winners and Adrienne Merritt added a double, two singles and an RBI.

Mary Eva Tenan doubled twice and drove in a run for the Knights and Erin Mann doubled and singled.

At Blue Hill, Laurie Allen allowed seven hits while striking out 10 batters and walking three to help lead the George Stevens Academy Eagles.

Tessa Grindle hit a two-run homer and singled twice to pace the Eagles. Liz Tyler had a two-run homer and a single. Nikki Boutin doubled and singled.

Nicole Shute led Searsport with a solo homer, a double, and a single. Tara Lee Webster had an RBI double and a singe.

At Lee, Jason Mallett singled, got to second on a Tyler Thompson walk and scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Pandas past the Blue Devils.

Zack Ludington paced Calais with a three-run double in the sixth and Russ McLean doubled. Six of the Devils’ eight runs were unearned.

At East Machias, Jared Gray hit a single and a double in addition to a grand slam to power Washington Academy.

Mike Marzoll chipped in with two singles for the Raiders.

Joe Leighton hit a two-run homer for Narraguagus of Harrington while A.J. Carter had a pair of singles.

At Belfast, Matt Welch cranked a grand slam and added an RBI single to power the Lions past Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Jesse Johnson chipped in with a double, two singles and three RBIs for Belfast and Nick Arthers added a double, single and two RBIs. Paul Herman drove in two runs on two singles.

Marty Quint doubled and had two RBIs for MCI.

At Blue Hill, Mike Astbury had two doubles and an RBI to help lead George Stevens Academy past Searsport.

Mark Clapp added a double and a triple for the Eagles.

Jim Gahon doubled, tripled and drove in a run while Mike Mercer contributed an RBI double for Searsport.

At Jonesport, Chad Pike hit a two-run single and Josh Engroff had an RBI double to help get Woodland the lead and win.

Martin Alley, Jared Alley, Derrick Beal and Leland Faulkingham each hit a single for Jonesport Beals.
