Liddy leads Southern Maine to victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Pat Liddy’s five-hitter helped the University of Southern Maine notched an 8-1 baseball win over Minnesota-Morris Tuesday.

Tyler Delome smacked a RBI double for Southern Maine. Pat Toomey had an RBI single.

Matt Knakmuhs produced the Cougars only run with an RBI single.

Colby splits twinbill

At Fort Myers, Fla., Matt Gibson scattered five hits in six innings to help Colby beat Upper Iowa 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Union defeated Colby in the second game 10-7.

Jon Lord slammed a two-run homer for Colby in the first game. Andy Tripp and Bill Goldman each doubled.

Tripp hit a solo homer for the White Mules in the second game and Matt Simard added a two-run double.

Softball

Southern Maine wins two

At Cape Coral, Fla., Sunshine Anders’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Southern Maine to a 4-3 win over Lawrence College in the second game of a doubleheader. The Huskies took care of MIT in the opener 8-0

Jessie Becher went the distance for the 5-5 Huskies, picking up her second win of the season. Erica White forced extra innings for Lawrence with an RBI single in the sixth.

In the first game, Erica Gagnon retired the first 13 batters she faced, holding MIT to just one hit overall.

Becky Manson paced the Huskies with three singles and two RBI’s. Belcher also smacked a double, a single, and added an RBI. Darci Holland added a solo homer to cap off the scoring.

At Fort Myers, Fla., freshman Kate Trasher pitched a five-hitter to notch her first college victory.

Amy Lisavich cranked a three-run home run and added two hits. Kim Chadwick chipped in with a double and single and Jess Fitzgerald singled twice.
