Husson wins 3rd region golf crown Braves’ MacGregor coach of year

DENNIS, Mass. – The Husson College golf team wrapped up a successful trip to Cape Cod Friday afternoon by winning the NAIA Region X championship at Dennis Highlands Golf Course.

It was the Braves’ third regional championship in four years.

The Braves’ two-round total of 612 edged State University of New York at Delhi by four strokes. Goldey-Beacom College of Wilmington, Del., was third at 650.

Joe Finemore of Sidney was Husson’s top finisher with rounds of 80 and 73 for a 153 total. Finemore finished fourth overall and was named to the all-tournament team.

Corey Pion of Vassalboro placed fifth overall with two rounds of 77 for a 154 total and was also named to the all-tourney team.

Shane Ross of Pittsfield had rounds of 79 and 76 and finished sixth with a total of 155. Fairfield’s Ross McGee recorded 73 and 84 for a 157 which was matched by teammate Corey Poulin of Jackman who shot 74-83 for a 157 total.

Husson head coach Bruce MacGregor was named the NAIA Region X coach of the year.

The Braves will play in the national championship tournament May 20-23 in Palm Coast, Fla.
