Stearns tips Tigers in 9th

MILLINOCKET – Dana Somers cranked a two-run, ninth-inning homer to power the Stearns Minutemen to a 13-11 high school softball victory over the Sumner Tigers Monday.

Casey Popp and Jordan Legassey each singled and doubled for Stearns while Hilary Arsenault tripled and singled. Holly Franck chipped in with three singles and Leslie Osborne doubled twice.

Meghan Ruhlin singled twice for Sumner of East Sullivan, stole two bases and scored four runs.

At Corinth, Megan Jones hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to spark Central.

Jones also hit a pair of singles with five RBIs for the Red Devils. Shawna Bell tripled and doubled with three RBIs and Renee Trafton had two singles with three RBIs.

Sheila Wilber hit a RBI triple for Searsport. Theresa Cameron doubled and Abby Tripp hit a RBI single.

Bucksport 3, Hermon 0

At Bucksport, junior Nikki Smith pitched a seven inning no-hitter to lead Bucksport to their sixth straight win. She struck out eight and allowed only three walks in her first no-hit game.

Jessica Taylor hit a pair of singles with a RBI for Bucksport and Tara Tweedie, Ashley McAllian, and Jill Richards each singled.

At Lee, Jesse Kuester hit a triple and two singles with two RBIs to help Lee win.

Ashlee Gifford doubled and singled and scored two runs for the Pandas and Marci Moors tripled with a run.

Jennie Getchell hit a triple and three singles with a RBI for Piscataquis. Heather Woodbury had three singles and Kristilyn Levesque doubled.

John Bapst sweeps Orono

At Orono, Gwen Wadleigh pitched a one-hit shutout in John Bapst’s 13-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader. John Bapst went on to win the second game 7-3.

In the first game, Julia Sleeper hit a double and three singles with four RBIs for the Crusaders of Bangor. Jill Mitchell had four singles with two RBIs and Rebecca Stevens doubled and singled.

Michelle Benoit struck out 14 and walked only three for Orono and Stacy Scott singled.

In the second game, Ada Athorp struck out 12 and allowed only two walks and three hits for John Bapst. Sleeper had two doubles and two singles with two RBIs and Stevens added a pair of singles.

At Milo, Dani Graves struck out 12 and allowed only three hits to lift the Patriots by Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Michelle Mulherin doubled twice and drove in a run to lead Penquis. Lindsay Ouellette added two singles and an RBI and Amanda Martin had an RBI single.

Toni Babineau, Krystle Levesque and Sharon Drost each singled for the Howlers.

At Lincoln, Sarah Carnes pitched a three-hitter while striking out eight and walking two to give Dexter its fifth win.

Sarah Wyman singled twice to lead the Tigers and drove in a run in the their two-run fourth. Brittany Veazie and Sabrina Cote each added two singles.

Kasse Brown doubled in a run for the Lynx and Ashley Emery had an RBI single.
