Name change
There will be no ribbon cutting ceremony for Epic Sports. Instead, the renaming of Cadillac Mountain Sports on Central Street will be marked by a bungee-cutting.
Owners Brad and Lynda Ryder will celebrate their business’ sixth anniversary by renaming it Epic Sports.
Participants at the event, set for 9 a.m. Friday, May 16, will include Mayor Nichi Farnham and members of the Bangor City Council.
Friday’s renaming launches a three-day customer appreciation weekend, the Ryders said, featuring sales, door prizes and a drawing for a Wilderness Systems kayak.
Epic Sports will continue to host the monthly Maine Outdoor Adventure Club that meets the first Tuesday of the month, the Banff Film Festival, the Clean Clothes Campaign and the YMCA PaddleSmart program.
A new Web site will be launched this month at www.epicsportsofmaine.com.

Financial planning seminar
St. Joseph Healthcare and Merrill Bank will offer “Oh, If Only I Had Planned!,” a free luncheon and lighthearted dramatization on the importance of financial planning, at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15. A special segment on advance directives also will be included in the presentation. Presenters will be James MacLeod of Merrill Bank; Rosalind Prince of Vafiades, Brountas and Kominsky; Nathaniel Putnam of Eaton Peabody; and Edith Richardson of Rudman and Winchell.

Campaign to end hunger
The 2003 Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger teed off on the right foot May 1 in Brunswick thanks to two annual events in conjunction with the Maine Credit Union League’s Annual Convention & Meeting. Combined, the two events raised more than $11,000 for the Campaign.
Credit unions participating in the golf tournament from the included, in Bangor, Bangor FCU, Bangor Hydro FCU, Bansco CU, Eastern Maine Medical Center FCU, and Maine Savings FCU of Hampden, Penobscot County FCU of Old Town, and University CU of Orono.
A team representing Bangor FCU won first place at the tournament. Team members were President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Clark, Basil Closson, Ralph Patterson and Bud McDonough.
Insurance award
The Whitehouse Agency, 100 Harlow St., has been recognized for outstanding performance with the designation of Chairman’s Conference by Allstate Insurance Company. Brewer
New name
On May 18, Shop ‘n Save stores in Bangor, Brewer and Old Town will be among 108 stores in the state to change their names to Hannaford.
The name change coincides with the grand reopening of the remodeled Brewer store, 383 Wilson St. As part of the celebration, Hannaford will donate $2,000 to the Brewer High School scholarship fund, $2,000 to the Holden Fire Department toward the purchase of an automatic external defibrillation unit, and $6,000 to the Brewer Fire Department toward the purchase of a thermal imaging camera. Brewer store manager Jay Gould will present the checks at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Brewer store.
Highlights of the Brewer grand reopening include free juice, coffee and donuts from 7 to 9 a.m., 500 free pineapples to the first 500 customers entering the Brewer store, and 500 cookies to the first 500 children entering the store. A sweepstakes program will offer prizes of a Webber grill from Dunnett’s, a mountain bile from Pat’s Bike Shop, three $250 L.L. Bean gift certificates, two Old Town kayaks from Epic Sports, three $250 golf gift certificates from Golf Country, and four $250 Hannaford gift certificates. Drawings will be held and prizes will be awarded at the Brewer store.
