Guiou leads Tigers by CAHS

MARS HILL – Brittany Guiou slammed a solo homer to key a 16-hit barrage at the Fort Fairfield Tigers rolled to a 16-3 high school softball win over the Central Aroostook Panthers Wednesday.

Kayle Searles had five singles, Brooke McCrum three singles and Courtney Burns two singles for Fort Fairfield.

Jocelyn Carvell and Jessie Grew hit two singles each for the Panthers. Alicia Rideout tripled.

Washburn sweeps East Grand

At Danforth, Nicole McLaughlin scattered three hits to go with 11 strikeouts and eight walks, to power the Beavers past the Vikings 16-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. Washburn won the second game 15-12.

In the first game, McLaughlin helped herself with three RBIs on three singles. Jamie Abar drove in two runs on a triple, a double and a single.

Amanda Godley singled twice for East Grand and Allie McKay hit an RBI double.

In the second game, Kari Howe’s two-run double highlighted Washburn’s five-run fourth inning. Howe went 5-for-5 with three singles and two doubles. Kristin Carter singled twice, doubled and drove in two runs.

Gina Zaneldin hit a three-run double and singled for East Grand. Godley tripled, singled twice and had an RBI.

SAHS, Hodgdon beat Katahdin

At Sherman Station, Southern Aroostook defeated Katahdin 15-5 in the first game of a doubleheader while the Cougars fell to Hodgdon 23-15 in the second game.

In the first game, Nicki Lyons hit a double and two singles while Meghan McLaughlin had three singles to help lead Southern Aroostook past Katahdin.

Jordan Sholler and Chelsea Collier added two singles apiece for the Warriors of Dyer Brook.

Jessica Green and Lindsay Albert each had an RBI single for the Cougars.

In the second game, Tasha Dwyer hit three singles and a double while Lindsay Stewart had two singles and two doubles to help power Hodgdon to the win.

Shanna McGary added two singles and a double for the Hawks while Andrea Blanchette had three singles.

K.C. Duffy-Stanley led the Katahdin effort with a single, two doubles and a triple while Brandi Violette sent home five runners on two singles. Albert hit four singles while Sara Charette chipped in with a single and a double.

At Machias, Jessica Whittaker’s RBI single in the top of the sixth helped the Blue Devils hold off the Bulldogs.

Sarah Mahan doubled, singled and drove in a run for Calais.

Jillian Whitney led Machias with four RBIs on a triple, a double and a single. Lindsay Cherry hit three singles and Logan Davis singled twice.

Baseball

Hawks, Warriors win

At Sherman Station, Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook and Hodgdon earned wins over Katahdin, with the Warriors taking the opener 16-0, and the Hawks beating the Cougars in the nightcap 9-7.

In the first game, Corey Edkins pitched a shutout and racked a solo homer to go with two singles and a double for Southern Aroostook.

Zack Philibert rapped two singles and a double, Zack Austin singled and doubled and Corey Shields tripled for the Warriors. Jared Grant singled twice, and Evan McGary doubled and singled twice.

Travis Robinson, Patrick Willett and Alex McAvoy had a single apiece for the Cougars.

In the second game, Hodgdon banged out 19 hits en route to the win.

Ben Carton and Derek Nickerson had three singles each while Jeff Condon and Matt Honey collected two singles each. Jimmy Griffin tripled and singled twice, and Tyler Schools added a double and two singles.

Robinson singled and tripled and Willett doubled and singled to pace Katahdin. Cameron Cunningham also had a single and a double.

East Grand splits with Washburn

At Danforth, East Grand defeated Washburn 15-0 in the opener of a doubleheader in which the Beavers came back to win the second game 7-6.

In the first game, Scott Flannery and Chris Irish combined to pitch a three-hit shutout.

Flannery added a solo home run and scored three runs while Richard Byers had a single, a double and five RBIs. Seth Preston hit three singles while Darius Parker chipped in with two singles and a double.

Dan Harris hit two singles for Washburn.

In the second game, Jason Thompson pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts as well as scoring a run in the seventh inning on a passed ball to give Washburn the win.

Clint Carter hit two singles for the Beavers while Sam Harris contributed with a two-run double.

Flannery led East Grand with three singles and two RBIs while Parker chipped in with two singles.

At St. Agatha, three Madawaska pitchers, Peter Gerard, Phil Roy and Steve Guerrette, combined to pitch a no-hit shutout and help give Madawaska the win.

Gerard hit a grand slam in the third inning to get the scoring started for the Owls and Andre Roy added two singles.

Jeff Pelletier, Brad Thibeault, Jason Bouchard, Jeff Paradis and Ryan Dyment each pitched an inning for Wisdom.

At Guilford, Mike Astbury’s two-out single tied the game and he rode home on a Colin Henry single in the top of the seventh as George Stevens Academy prevailed.

Josh Gott picked up the win, striking out seven in six-plus innings, while Dan Hilts got the save. Mark Clapp singled twice for the Eagles of Blue Hill.

Dan Macomber stroked a two-run double and Darin Spack hit an RBI double for Pisacataquis.

At Eastport, James Macdonald smacked an RBI triple and added a two-run single as the Tigers topped the Royals.

Matt Altvater doubled, singled and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly for the winners. Ben Maloney hit two doubles and reliever Derek Maloney struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings.

Jared Alley paced Jonesport-Beals with two singles and an RBI.

Josh Vile and Ben Davis had two singles each for Nokomis.
