NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Jeremy Owens had a perfect night at the plate and Josh Stevens threw three-hit ball into the eighth inning as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the New Britain Rock Cats, 4-2, in the Eastern League Friday.
Owens, who has 16 hits in his last 28 at-bats, had a single, double and two walks. His bunt single in the third inning set the stage for an RBI single by Raul Nieves that gave Portland a 1-0 lead.
Owens led off the fifth against New Britain starter Brian Wolfe (0-2) with a double and scored on a double by Kevin Youkilis. Youkilis scored on a double by Justin Headley to give the Sea Dogs (21-14) a 4-0 lead.
Stevens (5-1) walked three and struck out eight in 7 1//3 innings. Anastacio Martinez earned his fifth save of the season.
Terry Tiffee had two hits and an RBI for New Britain.
