You don’t know what you’ve missed if you haven’t seen it, and no matter what your age, you’ll get a kick out of it.
The Cole Land Transportation Museum is now open for the season from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
General admission is $5, seniors age 62 and over are just $3 and anyone under the age of 19 “are always admitted free,” reports Mark Burnett of the museum.
“We’re always encouraging groups, such as scouts and school groups, to visit,” he said while emphasizing that those groups and the people who accompany them “are also always admitted free.”
Of particular note for leaders of groups such as scouts or other programs that may be conducted after school hours is that “special arrangements can be made for them if our hours are not compatible with theirs,” Burnett said. For example, if your scout troop meets at 6 p.m., you can make arrangements to meet at the museum.
“We have a conference room where they can hold their meeting, and then they can have their own tour of the museum,” Burnett explained.
For more information or to arrange for your group to meet at the museum, call 990-3600.
Anyone interested in photography – or all things National Geographic – might enjoy attending Three Generations of Photography from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Edythe Dyer Library in Hampden.
The show features the works of the Abercrombie family, including Thomas and Marilyn Abercrombie of Shadyside, Md., their daughter Mari Abercrombie of Newburgh and her children Isaac Fer and Laura Fer.
Retired writer-photographer Thomas Abercrombie was on the staff of National Geographic magazine for 40 years.
Marilyn Abercrombie is a free-lance photographer who also worked for National Geographic.
Mari Abercrombie said the photographs she and her children are showing are part of their personal collections.
The public is invited to the show and there is no admission fee to attend.
Mike Andrick, program manager of the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, stopped by the other day to express that organization’s gratitude to residents of greater Bangor, particularly members of the National Association of Letter Carriers, for the contributions made to local food shelters as a result of the NALC Food Drive on Saturday, May 10.
Daryl Parker of the NALC told Andrick that 14,050 pounds of food was collected “and distributed in an equal fashion to area shelters,” Andrick said.
On behalf of all organizations that received supplies from the drive, and those who were most directly affected by obtaining food from those organizations, Andrick extends a heart-felt “thank you.”
