Selectmen agree to Seaplane Fly-In plan

GREENVILLE – Selectmen agreed on Wednesday to a plan of operation for the International Seaplane Fly-In.

The memorandum of understanding signed by the board and later by Frank Woodworth, president of the International Seaplane Fly-In Corp., details who will provide what and when.

“It’s basically an understanding of what has been but written to avoid confusion,” Suzanne AuClair, local fly-in organizer, told selectmen Wednesday. “We’re comfortable with it.”

Because there were some liability issues in the past with individuals outside the corporation providing shuttle services from the municipal airport to the Stobie Hangar, the agreement stipulates that permits will be granted to up to six shuttle operators, who will not charge or take donations for the service. If shuttle operators do accept gratuities, then they must be registered as a for-hire vehicle, have valid liability insurance and inspection sticker and be operated by a driver with a valid driver’s license. Each permit fee will cost $20 payable to the town.

In addition, the fly-in organizers will provide proof of general liability insurance for the three-day event in September, including use of the municipal airport. Greenville will be named as an additional insured party for the event, and the coverage will be for at least $1 million, single event.

In other business Wednesday, selectmen were elated to learn that the town received a refund of $26,913 from the Maine Municipal Bond Bank. The bond bank took advantage of favorable market conditions with two separate bond sales that provided about $19,000,000 for local districts and governments, including Greenville.

Selectmen agreed to let the unanticipated funds lapse to unappropriated surplus.
