Big School (Classes A-B)
JOSH YOUNG
The Bangor junior fired a two-hitter and struck out 13 in the Rams’ 1-0 win over Brewer Tuesday night. Young also drove in the only run of the game with a double in the fourth inning. It was the second time this year Young has beaten Brewer 1-0.
Small School (Classes C-D)
BRANDON HALL
The 6-foot-7 junior at Foxcroft Academy high jumped 6-7 at a track meet in Dover-Foxcroft. The Class C state record is 6-71/2. In the same meet, Hall won the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.79, the long jump with a leap of 19-6, and triple jumped 40-0. All of Hall’s times and distances bettered the qualifying requirements for the state championship.
GIRLS
Big School (Classes A-B)
KRISTEN HART
Hart, a senior on the Hermon High softball team, hit a two-run single in the ninth inning of the Hawks’ 9-6 win over Orono, a key victory for Hermon’s playoff hopes. Hart also singled for one of Hermon’s two hits in a 9-3 win over Foxcroft.
Small School (Classes C-D)
PAM SPOONER
The Ashland sophomore pitched a one-hitter and a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts in two games last week. She also went 9-for-11 in three games with three home runs, a double, and 15 RBIs. The Hornets were first in the Eastern Maine Class D standings through Saturday’s games.
