Ex-chief pleads guilty to domestic violence, pot possession

MILFORD, N.H. – Former Wilton Police Chief Robert Maguire pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges related to abusing a female officer with whom he had lived, the Attorney General’s Office said Monday.

Maguire, 50, was charged with one count of domestic violence-related criminal threatening and one count of possession of marijuana.

Attorney General Peter Heed said the threatening charge arose from an incident in January at Maguire’s Wilton home, where he threatened to cut off Christine Kelly-Rose’s pinky finger.

A search of Maguire’s house yielded marijuana and pipes to smoke it, Heed said.

Milford District Court Judge Martha Crocker sentenced Maguire to one year in county jail.

She suspended the sentence for two years if Maguire surrenders his law enforcement certification and all firearms, never applies to be a law enforcement officer, has no contact with Kelly-Rose and otherwise behaves himself.

“The Attorney General’s Office takes domestic violence and the violation of the public trust seriously. Robert Maguire’s guilty pleas and the sentences imposed by the court provide protection for the victim,” Heed said.
