PORTLAND – Chan Perry went 4-for-5 with two homers and a double, four RBIs and four runs scored as the Altoona Curve defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 12-6 Sunday in the Eastern League.
Josh Bonifay also homered, drove in two runs and scored three for the Curve.
Altoona (46-34) took command in the first inning as doubles by Jose Castillo, Perry and Chris Duffy sparked a five-run eruption. Perry’s two-run blast over the left-field wall made it 7-0 in the second.
After Perry’s second homer made it 8-0 in the top of the fourth, Portland (42-33) scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and added two in the sixth.
Bonifay’s two-run homer was the biggest hit as the Curve scored twice in the seventh and twice in the eighth.
Dustin Brisson doubled in the bottom of the eighth to plate two additional runs for the Sea Dogs.
Altoona starting pitcher Sean Burnett improved to 9-3 with the win, while Portland starter Tim Kester dropped to 4-5.
Jose Castillo and Shawn Garrett each knocked in three runs as the Curve battled back from a four-run deficit to defeat the Sea Dogs 10-6 Saturday.
Justin Sherrod homered and knocked in three runs for the Sea Dogs and Sean McGowan belted two doubles and drove in two more.
Portland had a 6-2 lead through three innings. The Sea Dogs’ key hits were McGowan’s two-run double in the first inning and Sherrod’s two-run homer in the third.
Castillo’s two-run double sparked three runs as the Curve scored three in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to one.
Then in the sixth, Chris Duffy’s double and Garrett’s two-run single keyed a four-run rally as the Curve took a 9-6 lead. Shaun Skrehot doubled and scored the game’s final run in the eighth.
