Nine former Bears are hockey free agents

Anaheim Mighty Duck All-Star left winger Paul Kariya isn’t the only former University of Maine men’s hockey player who has become an NHL free agent. There are eight other Bears who will be looking for new teams or seeking to re-sign with their former teams.

The others are goalie Garth Snow, who helped the New York Islanders earn a playoff berth; defensemen David Cullen (Minnesota) and Brett Clark (Colorado), and forwards Ben Guite (Anaheim), Jim Montgomery (Dallas), Scott Pellerin (Dallas), and twins Peter and Chris Ferraro (Washington).
