WARREN – SAD 40 directors elected a chairperson and vice chairperson Monday during an organizational meeting.
Susan Wilcox of Warren was elected chairperson and John Lichtman of Friendship was chosen as vice chairperson after a lengthy discussion about the qualifications necessary to lead the board.
“After going through last year – it’s more than a 10-minute item,” Director Wes Richardson said, noting the estimated discussion time on the agenda. “The chairperson holds the most important role to bring this board together. I don’t think it’s a 10-minute item.”
After a half-hour of discussion, Wilcox and Lichtman were elected.
Once nominated as chairperson, Wilcox listed her qualifications for the position, which included serving as vice chairperson for several years and chairperson of numerous other committees.
“I feel we are a dysfunctional board,” Wilcox said, promising to improve communications among board members and the public and to involve all of the stakeholders in the district.
Most importantly, Wilcox believes in integrity and honesty as a leader, she said.
