MEXICO – A 16-year-old boy underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the stomach after accidentally being shot by a friend Friday night.

Maine State Police said Justin Flaherty of Mexico was with a group of friends at a house on Burton Road when the gun went off, according to WCSH-TV.

Police charged Jesse Theriault, 18, with reckless conduct with a firearm, the station reported. Flaherty was treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
