BANGOR – The Maine Department of Transportation is evaluating the feasibility of a passenger rail or bus service between Bangor and Trenton.

The service would be one element in the continuing effort to reduce automobile congestion in the corridor leading to Acadia National Park and on Mount Desert Island.

The evaluation will include a survey of visitors in Acadia National Park in early August to gauge the response to a variety of possible transit services between Bangor and Trenton and increased frequency of the Island Explorer service. The survey also will consider changes in park entrance fees and limiting automobile access to certain areas of the park.
