Binghamton sweeps Portland

BINGHAMTON, New York – David Mattox allowed one run in seven innings to lead the Binghamton Mets to a 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon over the Portland Sea Dogs and a sweep of their five-game series.

The Sea Dogs (59-53) managed 10 hits after getting no hits on Saturday night, and just one in the second game of a Friday night doubleheader. But the team left also left nine runners on base.

Binghamton (55-60) jumped out to an early lead on a two-run double by Craig Brazell in the first inning. Mattox (6-5) scattered seven hits in his outing.

Junior Herndon (6-6) allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out seven in five innings for the Sea Dogs.

Sean McGowan, Jim Goelz and Justin Sherrod each had two hits for Portland.
