As a mother of two sons who fought in Iraq, I want to thank the VFW, local citizens, and business leaders of Bangor for the terrific late night welcome you gave the returning troops on Aug. 10th.

My oldest boy was among these troops. Because of your generosity, he was able to call me at midnight while I was in the hospital. It was uplifting to hear his voice. I’m sure it helped my recovery, too.

We have wonderful memories of camping in Maine and this community’s reception only strengthens our positive experiences with your state.

Our family won’t forget your great kindness.
