USM hires new coaches, trainers

GORHAM – Five new athletic department staff members, including three new head coaches, have been named at the University of Southern Maine.

John Razsa is the school’s new women’s volleyball coach, replacing Annette Caldwell, who coached the Huskies for the last four years. His coaching experience includes a stint at St. Joseph’s College, where he guided the Monks to a 106-90 record between 1992 and 1997. Joe Pistone is the new USM wrestling coach, replacing Ted Reese, who founded the program in 1996. Pistone, a former NCAA Div. II All-American at American International College, has coached at Johnston (R.I.) High School for the last three years.

Kate Loveless, the cheering coach at Old Town High School for the last two seasons, has taken the same post at USM. She is a 2002 graduate of the University of Maine who guided the OTHS cheering squad to an Eastern Maine championship in 2002.

Also hired by USM were two new assistant athletic trainers, Erica Baptiste and Shinichiro Sugiura.
