Delong, Smith lead Wildcats Vikings, Owls pick up wins

PRESQUE ISLE – Katie Delong scored off a pass from Kylan Smith with 9:04 left in the first half as the Presque Isle girls soccer team held off Ellsworth 1-0 Saturday in high school action.

Melissa Demerchant made seven saves on 11 shots for the 4-0 Wildcats.

Victoria Jones stopped 16 of 27 shots for the 0-1 Eagles.

JV: Presque Isle 5-0

Caribou 11, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Lauren Harrigan, Monica Selander and Jessica Kinney each scored two goals as the Vikings rolled.

Billie Martin, Amelia Cote, Lindsey Burlock, Courtney Francis and Michelle Ouellette each put one in for 3-1 Caribou. Martin and Rachel Willey combined to make one save on two shots.

Ashley Marden and Kate Walsh stopped 19 out of 38 shots for the 0-1 Ponies.

Madawaska 2, Hodgdon 0

At Madawaska, Liz LaPlante stopped three out of four shots to get the shutout for Madawaska.

Kelly Chasse and Liz Clavette notched a goal apiece for the 3-4 Owls and Beth Gerard added an assist.

Erin Foster blocked 12 out of 16 shots for the 2-3 Hawks.

Woodland 3, Shead 2

At Eastport, Erika Brown tucked a free kick into the upper corner from just outside the penalty area with 13:57 remaining to give Woodland its win over Shead in a mutual season-opener.

Lauren Troiani saved a penalty kick with five minutes left to preserve the win.

Lacy Gillespie and Kaitlyn Leeman staked Woodland to a pair of one-goal leads but Samantha Davis and Skylar Richardson answered.

Brown also had an assist while Shead received assists from Fawn Cummings and Valerie Bowen.

Troiani finished with 10 saves while Brittany Cox stopped eight shots.

Penobscot Valley 6, Dexter 1

At Howland, Rachel Daufor knocked in three goals and Kacy Foster two as the Howlers won their opener.

Randy Rackley tallied a goal and Tiffany Brown dished out two assists for the 1-0 winners. Jen Plourde stopped 10 out of 17 shots.

Sabrina Cote scored the 0-1 Tigers’ lone goal. Lindsay Burton rejected 16 out of 21 shots.

Football

Greely 14, MDI 7

At Cumberland Center, Zack DiSilvestro scored on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter to lift the Rangers past the Trojans.

Sam Green caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from Greely’s Ryan Pote in the second quarter.

The ensuing extra-point attempt failed, and MDI’s Isaac Lewis ran for a six-yard touchdown in the third quarter to give the Trojans a brief 7-6 lead.

At Winslow, fullback Derek Runnells ran for three touchdowns to power the Black Raiders past the Rams.

Runnells had TD runs of three, 41, and two yards. Ryan Lindie had a 68-yard punt return and Marty McCaslin added a TD on a two-yard run. Shawn Poulin booted five PAT kicks.

At Waterville, Kevin Scott’s one-yard run in overtime lifted the Panthers past the Cougars.

Waterville got first-half touchdowns from Anthony Jabar, Scott, Matt Hilton and Andrew Livingston, but Mt. Blue of Farmington held the Panthers scoreless through the rest of regulation.

Garrett Lake threw touchdown passes to Pete Tinguely and Andrew Beaulieu. Lance Meader scored twice for the Cougars.

Nick Arthers led the offense for Belfast with 113 yards on 11 carries and a two-point conversion reception. Josh Aldus gained 100 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns.

At Dover-Foxcroft, John Holabird and Ben Wakana each netted two goals as Caribou rolled.

Caleb Swanberg and Amen Harrigan notched a goal plus an assist each for the 2-2 Vikings and David Levasseur added a goal. Micah Maurio made 17 saves on 18 shots

Leonard Sheer scored on a penalty kick for the 0-1 Ponies. Brad Bellemare blocked 14 out of 19 shots.

Ellsworth 2, Presque Isle 2 (2OT)

At Presque Isle, the Eagles and Wildcats battled to a double-overtime tie.

Benji Lynch and Greg Whitaker knocked in a goal each for 2-0-1 Presque Isle with Nate Carter and Trevor Glover getting assists. Brad Baker made four saves on six shots.

Kris Tracy and Jenson Rich scored for 0-0-1 Ellsworth and Andy Berry and Jacques Tardie had an assist each. Noah Brown rejected four out of six shots.

JV: Ellsworth 2-0

Van Buren 1, Ft. Fairfield 0 (2OT)

At Van Buren Friday night, Tyler Lapierre scored off of a Mike Corbin assist at 3:45 into the second overtime to give Van Buren the win.

Dustin Cyr stopped one of two shots that he faced for 4-2-1 Van Buren.

Ryan Clark made five saves on seven shots for 3-3 Fort Fairfield.

Hampden 3, Bangor 2

At Hampden, Bud Bridges scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second half, as the Broncos rallied past the Rams.

Bridges scored Hampden’s first goal, cutting into Bangor’s 2-0 lead. Alex Wiken put in a goal off an assist from Trevor Campbell to tie the game, and Bridges scored again off a Nattapong Kongsuriya assist for the winner. Kenny Mayo made 10 saves on 12 shots for the 1-0 Broncs.

Mike Larochelle and Omar Conteh each put in an unassisted goal for the 0-1 Rams. Jessefa Murphy stopped 11 of 14 shots.

JV: Hampden 3-0

Rangeley 4, Greenville 2

At Greenville, Greg Gibbs put in two goals as the Bobcats prevailed.

Eric Christie notched a goal plus an assist for 1-0 Richmond, and Zack Brown added a goal. Steve Wullaert stopped 19 out of 23 shtos.

Jonah Lizotte scored two goals and Durgan McKusick dished out two assists for the 0-1 Lakers. Brandon Lavigne had 15 saves on 20 shots.
