Bronze Star for Valor

OLD TOWN – Army Lt. Michael May was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The ceremony was held in Baghdad.

May also has received the Army Achievement medal for meritorious service in Operation Enduring Freedom while serving in Kuwait. He has been deployed with the 2nd Armored Cavalry since September 2000. May, the son of Richard and Carol May of Old Town, is a 1996 graduate of Old Town High School and 2000 graduate of the University of Maine, where he was the ROTC battalion commander.

Basic training

LAWTON, Okla. – Army Pvt. Nicholas McCarty has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Lisa McCarty of Bangor.

Promotion

SAN DIEGO – Kalene Smith of Bangor has been promoted to Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class. She is serving aboard the USS Nimitz and taking part in Operation Enduring Freedom.

ROTC advanced leadership

TACOMA, Wash. – Walter Gibbons III of Glenburn and Bonnie Wood of Bangor have graduated from the Army ROTC National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash.

Gibbons is a 1997 graduate of Bangor High School and the son of Walter Gibbons Jr. of Bangor and Nancy Jenkins of Blue Hill.

Wood is a student at University College in Bangor. She is the daughter of Darrell Wood of Carmel.
