Man charged after alleged assault in Old Town

Old Town police arrested an Alton man after he allegedly assaulted a woman Tuesday night.

Officer Seth Bear reported that at about 10 p.m. he was called to the Knights of Columbus Hall parking lot for a fight in progress.

He arrived to find a woman lying on the ground with a man standing over her.

Bear said one witness had heard the woman screaming, and called police. Another witness said she saw the woman running toward a house, and the man tackled her from behind.

Bear said the woman, who was from Alton, was covered in bruises. She refused medical attention.

After interviewing both parties, Bear said, he arrested Timothy Daggett, 22, of Alton for assault and for operating under the influence.

Bangor police summoned a University of Maine student after she allegedly tried to steal more than $100 worth of jewelry from Filene’s on Monday afternoon.

Officer Jason McAmbley reported that at about 3 p.m. he went to Filene’s Department Store at the Bangor Mall, where store security had Aimee Alexander, 19, in custody.

The loss prevention manager told McAmbley that she saw Alexander take jewelry into a fitting room and come back out with nothing.

The manager followed Alexander out of the store and stopped her. She found two pair of earrings, two necklaces, three bracelets and a watch in Alexander’s purse.

McAmbley summoned Alexander for theft.

In a written statement, Alexander said she never had shoplifted before, and didn’t know why she took the items.
