Former school nurse has licensed revoked

AUGUSTA – A state board reached an agreement to revoke the license of an elementary school nurse accused of providing marijuana and liquor to minors, including her own daughter, who was 14 at the time.

The consent agreement involving Mary Cooper was reached in a closed-door meeting before the State Board of Nursing met Wednesday. Cooper, her lawyer and a representative of the Attorney General’s Office reached the agreement.

Cooper, 38, a former nurse at Narragansett School in Gorham, pleaded no contest to charges of furnishing drugs and endangering the welfare of a child on Nov. 22, 2002, in Cumberland County Superior Court.

Under the agreement, Cooper’s license will be revoked until 2005, roughly the same period that she’ll remain on probation.

Cooper, who declined to comment on the license revocation, already served 150 days in Cumberland County Jail. She was released last spring and will be on probation until November 2005.
