Portland landmark sold to Fla. investor

PORTLAND – A city landmark that’s crowned by a flashing time and temperature sign that’s recognized by thousands of commuters has a new owner.

The 14-story office building on Congress Street, known as the Time and Temperature building, was sold to a Florida investor for $9.5 million.

The Libra Foundation, one of Maine’s largest philanthropic organizations, sold it as a way to reduce its real estate holdings, its president said.

Libra’s Owen Wells said the sale was influenced by the acquisition and redevelopment of 250,000 square feet of office space at Pineland Center in New Gloucester.

The building is the last of four downtown buildings offered for sale last year by October Corp., the real estate arm of Libra.
